When I arrived a Mono Lake, the light was constantly changing due to fast moving clouds and stormy weather brewing above the nearby Sierra Nevada mountain range.
Mono Lake is populated by a vast number of tiny brine shrimp. Legions of small flies populate the shore, which at the water's edge takes on a black appearance due to the vast number of this fly population.
The light on the tufa towers wasn't exactly great, but the dramatic clouds made for an effective image. I did change the tonality of the image to my liking in post production. I would describe the mood of this image as serenely eerie.
